A LULLABY FOR DERBY
Written in creative writing workshops with local parents who gathered at Beckett Family Hub
LULLABY LYRICS
Many mothers voices speaking
“I was born in Derby, raised in Mickleover. We like to go out every day, whether it be for a dog walk or to nip and see a friend, or we’ll go for a picnic, both for his sake and for mine. Oscar’s very much, he loves being outdoors.”
“If you want some quiet time, we’ll go to the arboretum here in Derby, um, sometimes you just want a quiet place. You just want to detach yourself sometimes from the noise.”
“I shouldn’t say, I go to Lidl bakery. It still smells fresh, and me and his dad like to get brownies.”
“It’s a place, a special place in Markeaton Park. It’s a bridge with a river under it. There are lots of ducks and the birds there. It’s special for me and my son because the sound of the river and the sound of wings of the bird, it makes me peaceful and comfortable for him.”
“For me personally, I love going, yeah, so that’s why I go there. He’s able to see other kids, playing and he’s looking at them, and then he’s happy.”
“Quite fond of shopping the hustle and bustle. We’ve just bought our first house, so it’s gonna be your room, and we’re gonna give you like this beautiful home that we’ve worked really hard for.”
“I chose Beckett family Hub because navigating motherhood was something I was scared of, being in this country and not having my family by my side. So the first day I came here, the love, the calm, the serene environment, the laughter, I felt supported. I felt like I could share what I’m going through.”
“I think Derby is great for community. 100 percent”
Big eyes – fall in line with mine.
“The Love name I have for my child is my love.”
purpose – I think I’ve found mine
“Hey boo-boo, hey boo-boo”
Blossom dancing in the trees
as your hand finds mine with ease
“Michael”
I will save this in my mind
“My sunshine”
I will save this in my mind
“My love, my life”
“My King come here”
Your smile – takes my breath away
“Darling, sweetheart”
Sometimes – I wonder what you’d say
“Oskie… Oskie bear”
With how you watch the world go by
See the clouds shape in the sky
I will save this in my mind
I will save this in my mind
I’ll be the sunshine in your sky
I’ll be the mountain by your side.
I’ll be the blossom in the trees. I’ll be the soft touch of the breeze.
And if I were a fairy, I’d grant you this world every time.
There’s nothing I won’t do for you
Tough times I will see you through
فندق, فندق
‘Henry Jo’
“Arlo-bean”
“Bulabari”
“Sweetie”
Over
“Baba”
The little bridge with you
“Monkey boy”
“J-baby”
Ducklings with their mamas too
“Baby girl, I call her baby girl all the time.”
Like the falcon near the green, I will keep you always seen
“hey Bubba”
Save that in your mind
Save that in your mind
I’ll be the sunshine in your sky. I’ll be the mountain by your side.
I’ll be the blossom in the trees. I’ll be the soft touch of the breeze.
And if I were a fairy, I’d grant you this world every time
there’s nothing I won’t do for you, tough times I will see you through
Angels
“My peaceful place…”
Kisses on your eyes
“Riz Ali, riz Ali”
We’ve had such a lovely time
“My Angel”
“And baby love”
“I hope the angels watch over you, have a good sleep, mummy loves you, daddy loves you.”
“Good night, Anna. Goodnight anna, sleep tight see you tomorrow.”
“Goodnight J-boy sweet dreams my sweet heart, see you in the morning.”
“Yeah, I know you’re sleepy. It’s time to go bed. Sorry, sorry, I know it’s late.“
“Goodnight Arlo”
“Odàró asingio”
شب بخیر کوچولوی من
“Goodnight sweet dreams close your eyes.”
So my little ducky, close your eyes.
Good night.
