ABOUT
Nightlight Lullabies connects audiences through the universal experience of soothing a baby to sleep across the passage of time. A sound, light and performance installation inspired by research and creative workshops with local parents.
The work has been presented in cities including London, Brighton, Stockton, Crawley, Bexhill, Peterborough, and Leonardslee, all following a co-creation process with local communities.
The 4 nightlights should be presented in locations that allow the audience to experience each nightlight as an individual installation but also in relation to each other. Space should be given for the audio of each installation to be heard clearly, the lullabies are not loud and thought should be given to other sounds going on around the pieces. It is nice if you can hear the next installation in the distance as you move towards it.
Installations include:
- Lulled to Sleep: Hunker down on our bean bags under a giant rotating mobile and let our parents wish you sweet dreams with a mesmerising sound installation
- The Mother’s Voice: The Mother bathes her listeners in live acapella lullabies, she is elevated in a spectacular illuminated nightgown, hushing, lulling, and soothing through song.
-
A Lullaby for…: A large illuminated crescent moon, you are invited to sit down and hear a unique piece of music, written with parents in creative writing workshops.
- The Signing Mother: A Visual Vernacular (VV) film inspired by interviews carried out in Derby with parents that are Deaf by Martin Glover in British Sign Language, screened within the giant Daffodil Bedside Lamp. VV is a unique physical theatre technique, with elements of signed poetry and mime, primarily performed by Deaf artists.
